This book has a number of intra-chapter breaks in the action. The narrator often tromps right over them. Even knowing the story as well as I do there were a few that were outright jarring.

And the names are bad enough but but hearing how one should close with an enemy with a soft s rather than the z sound... and someone shooting a bow with bow pronounced like the front of a boat is just wrong.

The down side is having to put up with a less than stellar narrator mispronounce things or mangle the way that I've always pronounced things in my own mind. Ashkevron has always been Ash Kev Ron to me and Mikeal has always had a Mike in it. Now Ashkevron sounds like a sneeze and Meek Keel is in no way fitting for Van's younger but beefier brother.

The audio-version has both an upside and a down side. The upside is that the narrator stresses things that I might have give short shrift to in my reading. Hearing things means being exposed to the words at a different pace and that gives one the time to imagine things a bit differently than when reading them for one's self.

Bought a copy of the audio-book version of this in the latest Audible deep discount sale. After reading umpteen times or the last two decades I still love this story. It's a tale of coming out and growing up amongst those that will never fully understand you.
