3.5 stars. Mark of Cain and then Dark horse still my favs of Sherwood. But all three books I've read by her were unforgettably good!

OHMYGOD, OHMYGOD! Noooooo! The home! The dogs! Waaaah! The running into!

Caleb's brother, Trevor, is poisonous! The way he spins Caleb's behaviour as being malicious ("Why are you… why is it so important to you that I not succeed?") is aggravating and soul-sucking. Caleb, he may be your brother but when you feel as if you have to defend yourself or you feel bad about yourself around a person, being alone is better, or finding different ppl.

And I also like Caleb's view of the land and himself--so harmonious and earthy spiritual, Shinto-like.

I like it when confident, cocky, poised Peter becomes unsure and slightly bumbly, lacking clear direction within himself.
