What's tedious exactly? I'm considering buying this but I'm not committed...

I mean, it's that Gothic kind of tedious, you know? The heroine is staying at a creepy estate and weird things are going on, but the plot isn't advancing. Weird things just keep happening, and she keeps having obtuse conversations with her two companions rather than just *asking* what is going on. I could deal with this if the writing were better than it is! I'd get this from the library if I were you (like I did!).
Oh, I know exactly what you mean now. The kind of stuff I would have just eaten up...20 years ago. Also god there are so many books I could deal with if the writing were better than it was. It's just the worst when an author has lots of good tropes or concepts and then they can't express it in a way that makes them work in a story.
Still curious about this so yeah I might end up *acquiring* it to read.
