There are a few minor factual issues, but I think they are probably memory issues and matters of exaggerated perception. By and large, still terrific. Clear and crisp writing, clarifies well historical details that have been mythologized a bit. (I could do without the irrelevant epigraphs at the start of the chapter. One of the best features of the book is it's lack of pretension, and the epigraphs compromise that.)

Still colloquial and enjoyable, I have to admit I'm getting a bit bored. Getting into the minutiae is nice, but I was hoping for more meat. There's a lot up at the front; the end of the book is fairly soft.

Very strong so far. Not literary, but that's part of the charm. Davie is matter of fact and colorful. There's a sort of homage feel to the early chapters that is respectable, a show of gratitude. Feels very personal, and communicating that feeling is not easy.
