OK, the use of American grammar is one thing, but 'cent' instead of penny?? Pretty unforgivable. I also feel like I've lost the plot of Rochester's story somewhere in amongst all the sex. There is a lot of sex in this book. There was no sex in Jane Eyre. Am intrigued to see how the meeting with Jane pans out, but I am not sure how much more I'll be reading of this book after that!

Hmmm, some interesting ideas in here about Mr Rochester's early life, but I am getting increasingly bothered by the Americanisms: e.g. 'he wanted to go ride'. I don't know if this novel is an homage to Charlotte Bronte, but the details of sex and use of swearwords is not in keeping with the original language in Jane Eyre. Will keep progressing, but I noticed all this by only 3% in, which doesn't bode well.
