It's interesting to see how King portrays the spread of this disease, especially in light of the way COVID unfolded. In some ways he was 100% accurate - he depicts news outlets downplaying the effects of the disease. However, his depiction of the rapid spread of the disease seems far fetched given what we have experienced in 2020 and 2021 - something like this would take months to wipe out a population, not days.

One thing I've noticed is how much sex there is in this book. It seems King can't go one chapter without mentioning it. I have been most intrigued by the way the characters have set about trying to form a new society and all of the potential pitfalls that come with the growing numbers in their Free Zone.

Things are finally starting to happen and King's building sense of a mysterious "something ominous" is underway.

Took a little while for me to really get into this. The first ~100 pages is dedicated to introducing a broad array of characters and it gets slightly frustrating switching stories after each intro - right when you are getting familiar with the characters in a certain city. However, it finally starts to payoff and pickup the pace around page 100. I'm now completely immersed.
