Black humour wasn't the problem; it was just uninteresting after the original strange idea was birthed and expanded somewhat. After that, it couldn't hold together for a whole novel. Felt pointless after a while. I do like Cole's writing in general though, and his characters and story in Hope Makes Love are outstanding!
