I kinda feel sorry for Edmond. He sounds like a lost boy, really. Mary is a sanctimonious prig. She doesn't behave all that great to begin with for her to cast stones.

I felt exactly the same; he was supposed to be this famous rake but in reality comes across as sensitive wounded soul while heroine is the cold hearted b…ch.
