CHP 30
The discourse on ASL as a language is fascinating. This debate is different than others (english dialects, the difference between Mexican and Spanish language, etc) because the dialects are dictated by people in power. Language should not be a heiarchy, and instead should be fluid.

CHP 53
The idea of "fitting in" in a culture has always been a hot topic. One that is constantly changing definition, too. The author in this article is emphasizing the idea that we shouldn't be so harsh on the "middle ground" people, that they are just as Deaf as anyone else. This is important in the deaf community during this time because there was a lot of "guidelines" to being deaf that made the community smaller

CHP 47 (my fav #!)
The concept this article takes on is very similar to struggles faced in the LGBT, POC, and other communities. There is a harmful idea of having to be "pure," in a sense, to belong in a community. If you are not, then you do not belong there. However, that means every mixture of people cannot fit into a community. This idea is problematic, and needs to be realized.

CHP 44
This article is very important due to the fact that it is based upon informing. As the author states, many articles either express the benefits or the harms of CI surgery, however this is a good mixture of the two. The finalization of this article is especially important, because it gives a "sum-up" of recommendations that are vital to not only the parents, but also the child.

CHP 36
This paper is very concise and to-the-point. Many papers regarding education (even my own) are very broad and open to the idea of change and interpretation. It is refreshing to hear an exact plan from this paper. Not only that, but an exact plan to help the deaf community in specific. This paper has a very clear target audience with clear ideas, which makes this an interesting paper.

CHP 34
This piece emphasizes the importance of promptness. This is essential for the deaf community, since this was written in 1902. 1902 was before the world wars, which meant women and other minorities were not permitted to work in many places. Because of this, promptness in your skill-set was vital to gain a job during this era.

CHP 32
This letter speaks of the importance of character, where this philosophy can be applied in any unfortunate situation. The primary focus of this letter, though, is to both give advice on true character, and advise that the deaf have a "reputation" to hold. If a deaf person is seen begging, there is not only judgement being put upon the beggar, but the whole community. This is what the author warns.

CHP 48
The article focuses on the DPN movement, and its major/minor affects on the community. The movement led to political changes as well as educational. However, this movement also encouraged the fight for equality in the deaf community. In 1996, the movement led to those changes. The authors predicted the DPN movement would amplify deaf voices in the future. As of currently, 2022, this has been correct.

CHP 42
This article emphasizes the importance of representation. Not only that, but casual representation. In our world, it feels that in order for a minority to be famous, they must be perfect, they must be flawless, and they must be flashy. But, people aren't always perfect. As a non-binary person, seeing casual representation is more important to me than amplified rep., and I'm sure the Deaf community may relate.

CHP 23
This article is very important because it demonstrates an easily understandable microcosm of all minority groups. The majority thinks there is something "wrong" with minorities and put in effort to "fix' them, however they are living their lives in their own way that works perfectly well. On specifically a deaf-education note, this does heavily refer to the oralism method, however it also represents much more.
