Should have mentioned this earlier, but many references to French history, and main supporting characters are Moliere and Racine, about whom I know nothing.

Oliver's friend Charlie doesn't believe him and has a relativistic pov, but that is portrayed as silly itself. Charlie is the dumb American who has loads of tech, relates omnes to the Beatles, and makes rude comments about the girl next door.

"...'I must have, like, this sort of instinct inside me that would let me, uh, lead and all and that I shouldn't really *think* too much. You know, trust my instincts. Get beyond my conscious mind, get in touch with the universe, go beyond, like, logic, and use the force...'

'You... find... yourself in a confrontation with absolute evil, and you... are... planning... not... to... think?' "

Finally some answers!

Also, noticing a lot of Christian code-talk: Epiphany, the Way, the mirrors that steal souls, the whole king narrative, etc. The reason why I randomly picked up this book in the first place. The only thing that's really throwing me off is the occasional OMG.
