the main character/narrator is nick his family was already wealthy but he wanted to make his own way, so he became a bond sells man and moved into the old groundskeeper's house, and made his way to west egg where he has dinner with his third cousin dasiy where he finds out about her husband's affair from dasiys friend Jordan. at the end of chapter four hes on his way home from a party with tom and murtal.
