There are many asides of explanation for Western readers, but they're done pretty well. They aren't seamless but are matched in tone and texture to the text they're appended to.

I've even enjoyed the Foreword, the Preface, the Glossary, the Dramatis Personae...but most of all the clarity of Persian's largely ungendered language.
"You" doesn't equate to "her" OR "him" necessarily. Sounds heavenly to me.
