Maguire has already begun to stand a standard romance trope on its head. Heroine inherits property from father who abandoned her and she is reclaiming it from the man who became his stand-in child. Usually said heroine flounces around only thinking of her own hurts and being mean to stand-in child. Not Jenna. She realizes that he's hurting too.
