Now both of the evil characters are gay? Why must that be? Why can't we have positive gay characters? Gays often get demonized and treated as aberrations in literature and film. So disappointing. Luckily books these days seem to be changing this tide, thankfully.

And yeah, then there's the whole rape part. Why do historical fictions always include rape? Trying to be true to the time period? Well then how come you don't dwell on the lack of toilet paper, showers, deodorant, toothpaste and tampons? Why selectively pick out that bit of historical accuracy?!

And...this is where I always get annoyed with romance books. Every romance book you build up the tension between the two and then they finally get together and then the woman starts acting irrational and stupid because she feels like she doesn't deserve happiness. Is it impossible to find a feminist romance??
