No happy ending but at least characters achieve a bittersweet peace. Did not enjoy the writing style. The author tried too hard to use unusual descriptions. It broke the flow of the reading and came off as ostentatious. Beginning was choppy, hard to follow. Almost stopped but because of reviews, I kept going. I never felt the title was adequately explained. The phrase was used often but was never clear to me.
