I was recommended this book by the author when I asked for fantasy that had culture clashes.
The main character is a woc, which is always nice to see, especially in the white dominated fantasy genre.
I believe it is ya. The writing is frankly not good enough to be an adult book.

I hate to say this since it was personally recommended to me, but I'm probably not going to finish. I'm more than halfway through and there hasn't been even a hint of an exciting main plotline.
It has a lot of good points but the writing just isn't strong enough to bring them out. It really needs to be rewritten with an editor willing to cut out the fluff
