They introduce matilda and this "witch" Teresa. It seems just from the first few pages that Teresa doesn't really like Matilda. Teresa heads out to the woods and starts chanting to see if this spirit thing actually appears and it does. The spirit's name is Laura and is upset that she isn't in japan and yells at Teresa, mostly because she barley woke up from being in the book most of the time.

Laura and Matilda surprised Teresa for her birthday and they made her make a wish. Laura being a spirit not knowing how the actual world works, gave matilda (underage) alcohol and was drunk. Laura then asks teresa what she wished for and teresa doesn’t wanna say but then instead told Laura to come with her to japan and Laura kisses teresa. Which is weird cause she’s basically a spirit or whatever.
