I don't know if attitudes have changed since this book was written, or if it's merely the fact that I've had more experience in these matters since last time I read this book (a hundred years ago, when life was very different), but Tom's constant impatient dismissal of Goldie's money worries is extraordinarily annoying. Like - seriously, you can't comprehend no job = no money = no food in the house? Then go away
