I'm debating on whether or not to have a DNF shelf. On the one hand, I don't think I have the right to warn people away from a book I haven't read cover-to-cover, on the other hand, my feelings about the book were so strong I was forced to toss it away. Do you have a DNF shelf?

Jo I personally don't have a DNF shelf, but that's purely because I don't have the strength to abandon a book, even if I'm thoroughly disliking it. I do, however find the strength to leave a scathingly honest review afterwards. I think it's a good idea, after all, they are your shelves.

Clint Hall You make some good points.
I don't have many DNFs to shelve, and I've played with this idea before, but my current read has brought the idea back. I think ten years ago, I wouldn't hesitate to create a DNF shelf, but nowadays it's fashionable to have an opinion on something without knowing the complete story. So I'm thinking a DNF shelf would make me 'that guy'.
Thanks for the comment, Jo!

Lizz I don’t have one. I write in the review if I didn’t finish it and sometimes I don’t rate it too. If I truly hate something I can’t give it even a slightly objective rating. And I try to rate to the ideal of what the book could be. So if I give it 5 it’s not necessarily something I’d read again, but it was all it was trying for.

No, but I'm gonna start a HTAIIEGAC (Hang the Author if I Ever Get a Chance) shelf.

Interesting thoughts, Lizz. But do you shelve your DNFs as Read books?

Lol, seems a tad extreme. Might I suggest TAIUTBATP (Tell Author I Used The Book As Toilet Paper)? Gets the point across without the whole...lynching thing. ;)

Chris Yes, I have a DNF shelf, although it has few books on it. I am one who usually will finish a book even if I don't like it. I know, I know, such a waste of time.

Yeah, see I struggle with that. I read for fun, and if I'm not having fun , what's it all for? That being said, I force myself through classics that aren't appealing to me; not for literati bragging rights, but more for studying literature. I suppose, to add a modern dimension, it can offer a little schadenfreude to write a scathing review.
