I don’t know why I keep picking up books where one of the characters is an author since I never really like them. It always feels like a preachy self-insert/wish fulfillment, ego trip.

I get that Brooke’s whole thing is plus size model and body confidence, but it seems a bit gross to me that every time she enters a scene they describe her as being heavier than everyone else present.

Making everything in the protagonists life shit and betrayal is my least favorite way to build sympathy and a connection with the reader. But, I am determined to see something good happen to her, so I guess it worked even though I’m not a fan of the emotional manipulation.
