I read this over 20 years ago and thought it was a bit of a mess, to tell the truth. I dug the parts dealing with the house, but the Johnny Truant sections were torturous. I kept thinking about this book throughout the years, however, and figured it was about time I gave it another shot (though I may skip Johnny Truant if he starts pissing me off).

Jordan West I originally read it as I think a high school junior, and felt much the same way - I absolutely loved the central narrative of the Navidson report, everything else, not as much (although I'm sure a fair amount of the metatextuality went over my head at the time) - for me, the parts about the house kept me enjoying it overall, kind of like how you just have to get through all the ridiculously goofy subplots halfway thru season 2 of Twin Peaks to get to the Windham Earle/Black Lodge stuff.

Jack Tripper That's a very good analogy. I can't remember how integral the Johnny Truant stuff is to the Navidson plot, or else I'd seriously consider skipping it. But maybe I'll have more patience now.

nethescurial I'm reading it again right now and I feel like I'm the only person who kinda prefers the Johnny sections haha. But the whole novel keeps me enthralled from front to back.
