XD This explains so much! I was just thinking that I would recommend this to a 12 year old.

So now I can be far less critical and just enjoy this.

Maybe it's just MY mistake in assuming tornadoes = USA setting. Because "first floor" referring to "upstairs" is not how we count 'em in N. America. 1st storey is ground, 2nd storey is upstairs.

I know it's narrated by a 12 year old girl with Down's Syndrome, so complexity isn't expected.

...is this going to be the opposite of A Place to Hang the Moon? Is this a British author writing about an American family? (I haven't looked yet, but "Mum", and, "have you sorted your room?" are twigging me...). I suppose tornadoes and strawberry farms exist in the UK, too. And everyone knows Eleanor Rigby....
