When Max and Freak returned they were covered in gook and mud from the lake and Max's grandparents were especially worried. The cops made it seem that Max helped Freak but Max knew that the truth was that Freak saved him. Max said he had a really great summer with Freak, teaching him new words and forcing him to get up early in the morning to eat together and go on a "quest".

Max loves fourth of July but this would be the first time he'd be spending it without his grandparents. He was going to spend it with Freak at the pond where there will be fireworks displayed. They run into this delinquent kid who starts picking on them both but Max and Freak go away and enjoy the show. After, Freak spots the guy from earlier and Max starts running with Freak on his shoulders. The cops helped though.

After Freak tells Max about the story of King Aurthur they jump into this conversation about robots and television and all the sort of thing that kids talk about. Then they hear a woman calling out for Kevin aka Freak. Max looks out to the woman and no surprise, it was Freak's mom. The mom looked shocked to see max and kind of upset, in his eyes at least. The mom took Freak away leaving Max alone again to think.

Max and Freak start talking and Max asks what freak is doing with this bird toy thing. Freak explains what it is and Max is shocked that he talks like hes a dictionary. Then, Freak demonstrates what it is and just like a dog, Max goes after it and gives it back to Freak. Soon after Max decides to show where he lives where Freak tells him the story of King Aurthur

Max remembers this disabled kid, Kevin, as Freak and even Robot Boy because of the crutches and braces he brought way back in day care. Then he said that Freak disappeared until they were in 3rd grade, seeing him in his wheelchair moving on Max's street. Max keeps looking as Freak moves in and Freak notices and starts threatening with a villain type vibe. I wonder what'll happen.
