Back up of Bush and Conley is described vividly. Old Houston versus New Houston. Cattle money versus oil money. The Alamo versus the Mayflower.
The book doesn’t feel long. Shirley can write, but does anybody else find that e-books go faster than traditional text, even when read?

That Ford is campaigning for Reagan is not to be negated since Ford wanted on the ticket. The Reagan team notes, however, that Ford‘s campaigning is suspiciously near championship golf course. :-)

Shirley is tracking with a four-star story and is determined not to get in the way. Unusual for me not to find something to quote about humans in human affairs along the way and still enjoy the book, but that's the case so far.

In the South and Southwest, he (Bush) conspicuously ate pork rinds. In the Northeast, he ate tuna fish with Tabasco. Bush was a chameleon. On his wrist was a preppy striped watchband; on his feet, depending on the region, cowboy boots or loafers. His audience saw what they most wanted to see. Reagan, on the other hand, was always … Reagan.
