set to finish this behemoth today—alot of nitty gritty detail but I got the jist of it

have been appreciating the depth of judicial work, in awe of the whole process, how critical certaim issues are, how entrenched some justices can become, the diversity of points & arguments, how both sides have very strong & valid stances,

Lengthy but chock-full of Court drama. Up close & personal glimpses of Justices, being witness to the tug-of-wars, the various styles of the Justices, their cohort of intelligent firepower clerks, and the influence of those clerks. This began w/capital punishment (death penalty) and is rounding out w/abortion. It’s the hair-splitting judgements, and the contexts of cases—the endless nuances & exceptions…

For the system to work, for justices in disagreement to achieve an exchange of ideas, undertake a search for common ground, or even reach an agreement respectfully to disagree, there must first be trust and belief in mutual good faith.”
