Xihe was central to the first story. We learned how the Suns (sons) came to be. Now in the second story we meet Houyi, the immortal archer who kills the suns and loves Chang'e, the mortal serving girl who becomes Houyi's wife and the immortal moon inhabitant. The imagery in this writing is unforgettable, the metaphors shot straight to target. And the gender switch for Houyi? Superbly conceived and executed.
