Still a hard slog.
I don't get this, it seems rather obvious that a lot of the ideas are from Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles; to such an extent it does seem like it's just part of that world. Nothing makes this book that special. Irena is annoying Damien is flat. Who cares about these characters?

This is a hard slog. I really don't like this book, the story si just flat, the characters are flat. It doesn't feel like the 1500's, a lot of the time it feels like it is present time. There is moments when I feel like the author just doesn't check their notes, the the vampires view point, he said that the King fought for life for a few days before he passed, while the daughter said that he died right away.
