The first two chapters take pains to inform me that boys are one way (bold, tender, impetuous, unmoored) while girls are another (homebodies, timid, clingy, regretful) over and over. I think I thought this was the story of a transgendered person; instead it's the story of a repressed, old-fashioned, sexist and bored housewife.
