Not sure how I'm feeling about this book... Definitely a RR production that received an editing pass for release. Every 15 chapters feels like a mini-arc focusing on specific events and then flows into the next focused arc. Once you have an eye for the formula, it starts to dry out.

There's major pay-offs to each, but those are two strong chapters out of every 12. Also didn't care for the scene everyone talks about.

Of 20 is 32% done

Beginning didn't do much for me, the original dynamic between Chao, Huifen and Chao's dad reminding me of The Warded Man. Now that they've gotten away from that and entered the sect, things are definitely improving but it remains formulaic.

While the author has a strong grasp of his cultivation system and where it's going, you could check off the tropes one-by-one. Another case of nothing I haven't read before.

Of 20 is 10% done

Been listening to this one on audiobook but I've decided to switch gears. I don't think a lot of progression fantasy and gamelit works in the audio format (for me, at least). This one seems to have an interesting magic system, but I'm having difficulty with character voices due to the differing presentation between two narratives.

Prioritizing Lord of the Mysteries over this one. Will come back to it.
