The Killer in the Rain - The core elements of this story ended up in The Big Sleep, though this one made a little more sense, plot-wise. But eww. A guy raises a girl as his daughter and now she's all grown up, he wants to marry her.

Now finished Smart-Aleck Kill. The hard boiled noir elements of his later success are here, but the writing is rather bland and the plot a tad dull by comparison with his later work.
