Oh my! Read some chilling stories here. They start of so sweet and slow with delightful descriptions of nature, the path, the hills or town or surroundings.

Then O’Brien peels back the curtain to show us one character, just one. It might be a man shooting ducks or an angler or a walker in the hills.

And when the piece is done he has crossed over to purgatory or gone stark raving mad.

What lyrical prose! I rarely come across a book with words I have to look up. This is such a splendid celebration of nature combined with an insight into human nature both delightful and thought provoking
