FINALLY remembered to answer this. So, the 'him' is the Count. And the girl is the daughter of his old, kind employer. The Count is going to reward both his old employer and the girl for being good to him and being honest, decent people (he not only punishes the guilty, but rewards the innocent <3).

I just love when the tough, stoic older guy is hardened by the world but softened by a young person. There's something about a very sweet person that does that!
