The meandering way this book is written shows a lack of clear structure or argumentation. If the book is trying to show how Jane Austen used what she knew to craft interesting characters, it fails to do so. Thoughts ramble about the page varying from biographical, architectural, or about portraits without thought for how they work as a whole. Nothing builds off of what came before it in any meaningful manner.

Mr. Crawford a better match for Fanny Price? I may vomit. Did we read the same book? Can you not comprehend anything beyond the surface level? Granted I think Fanny deserves better than either her love Edmund or Mr. Crawford, but I'd never wish a Mr. Crawford on anyone.

I don't think we have the same definition of comic characters in Jane Austen's works. I find myself wondering if you're actually well versed in them. Your readings and lack of attention to literary techniques used are surface level at best. You on several occasions openly disregard what Austen has said about her works.

The chapter on her 2 brothers who became Admirals was tolerable, until the finale paragraph where she posits that if Jane Austen had been a man she'd have been able to write military men better because, well I'm not quite sure. She says it is obvious between clergyman or military which career Jane would choose, I guess implying Naval officer? Hawkridge, do you actually like Jane Austen? I don't think you do.

There are some decent observations made amidst the confused rambling, however they aren't new information. The entire book lacks a clear structure. It reads like a falcon looking for her falconer but never landing because the center will not hold.
