I don't remember Dakar from the original novels. This feels like new territory to me. I am enjoying the story. I wonder if we'll ever get an actual account of Alsair.

I am emotionally exhausted! I want to finish this tonight, but I think I'll have to take a break until tomorrow. One can't help but be emotionally invested in this story. I still think of Alsair. Is that one sentence all we'll get?

The part I feared has arrived, but I forgot about the insult to injury... I'm also surprised at how upset I am with Gerard! Yes, he should have seen it coming! He should have known better! He was warned multiple times. But did he/they deserve this? I don't think everything registered when I read the novels individually. I was too shocked at the consequences. End of Part II.

Wow, Silveo! What are you doing Gerard!?! I don't remember this part from my reading of the three original novels.

Realization: Gerard has limited survival skills. He forced her out, and almost immediately forgot that she could read his thoughts. SMH

Later he would remember - and wish bitterly that he had listened.

The last few chapters helped in understanding, but I think this was the initial moment I started liking Silveo. Looking over my updates from my previous reading, I realize that I do not feel the impending doom or dread I did then. I still remember that something terrible will happen (multiple bad things, if I am not mistaken), but I am not allowing that to cloud my experience. I'll get there when I get there.

Audio: Garard sounds a little different than I imagined. I expected his voice to be deeper or maybe richer - I can't quite put my finger on it. Thessalyn sounds as sweet as I pictured but much younger. Silveo, however - right on the money!
As for the story - it feels different - which is neither a good nor bad thing.

Unfortunately, the audio does not always match the written page. Words are changed, and whole sentences are skipped. It disrupts the flow.

I have decided to try the audio version as I read along - the background music, in the beginning, is SO loud that it is sometimes difficult to hear parts of the characters' conversation.
