This has a very YA feel to it, better suited perhaps for a younger teen. Early days yet.

Bad combo. First person narrative, MC spends all the time in the country running the estate = LOADS of exposition.

Where is Carla when I need her expertize?????
Seems to me a tad early, but from the little I know entirely possible (dusting off my Medieval European degree and realizing that was wasted money). Monasteries were indeed established during the 6th and 7th centuries and would certainly become quite organized...but 6th century would be fairly early in their establishment.
That's about the limit of my knowledge on the subject......that's what 50K buys you (and four years of too much booze). Don't tell my parents.

I won't tell. Thinking more on these didn't Gwynne take refuge in a monastery after Arthur's death? To be fair, this was written in 1975 when info wasn't quite so easy to grab out of a hat.

Yea, Hollick has her doing that...she's pretty spot on, too.
