Well...supposed to be saving money for my trip out to Vancouver Island to see my family for the first time in about 5-6 years. Mom let me know the Rotary Club has a book sale planned while I'm out there for the next four weeks. I popped into Bison Books on my way home and there's Aimee, the owner sorting through a box and directing me to a few piles of new acquisitions that I must check out...$80 poorer now lol

Ron The silver lining is you're richer too.

Mike Look at this haul, Ron:

1. Black Leopard Red Wolf - Marlon James
2. The Poisoner's Handbook - Deborah Blum
3. Time Will Darken It - William Maxwell
4. Death in Summer - William Trevor
5. The Maid's Version - Daniel Woodrell (signed copy)
6. Stoner - John Williams
7. Shuggie Bain - Douglas Stuart

I think that was a pretty darn good investment today and they're all in beautiful condition.

Ron It's great coming across signed copies. Those look like seven to hang onto with two I know. Quite positive you'll enjoy them all. Great haul, Mike.

Cheri Mike, I love seeing ‘Stoner’ among your new acquisitions! It is among my top favourite books! ‘Shuggie Bain’ was a heartbreaking read, but so worth the pain, and will be interested to see what you think of the rest - whenever you find the time for them! I have yet to read Maxwell, but have a copy of Black Leopard Red Wolf waiting for me, as well!

Mike I was really excited to pick up "Stoner" and "Shuggie Bain" as I know both of you really appreciated those ones.

William Trevor has been on my radar for awhile and I was excited to see Aimee puck this one out of the box she was checking - I snagged it as soon as put it aside and there was a blurb inside that I read aloud for her that whet both our appetites.

The book by William Maxwell had a blurb on the cover that said something to the effect "as close to literary perfection as you can get". Had to see if there is any truth to that statement!!

The joy of treasure hunting in a secondhand store was immensely realized that day.
