Finished! 3.5 stars, and I’m reluctantly inclined to round down, because sections of the story were a bit slow and talky. I liked it, though - this one, and The Greatest Adventure.

This seems like it will top The Time Stream, and The Greatest Adventure, in terms of which novel by this author I like best. We'll see. De Soto is a fascinating character, even if all of this is written in a pulpy style that is going for thrills over character development. This book reminds me slightly of a novel from the same era that I love, Gladiator by Phiip Wylie, with the "superman among mere humans" theme.

Book2Dragon This sounds like the film starring Robin Williams about Dr. Oliver Sacks (named differently in film). It was based on his book Awakenings.

Yeah, I’m not sure what I’m in for with this, but it’s supposedly some kind of predecessor to Flowers for Algernon, which of course has similarities to the film you’ve mentioned. I’ve just done 21 pages, all I’ll get to tonight - and I can tell you that this will be the Pulpy, whiz-bang version of those stories. Fine with me - I know what USA’s SF from the 1930s can be like, and I have read two novels by this author recently so I know it can be pulpy, fun plot over depth. The first two chapters have definitely gotten me intrigued.
