This trilogy (as well as the prequel series ❤️) is complete, but Pia’s still posting new content every couple of weeks — be it alternate POV chapters that offer some extra insight, or AU series that are different, but pretty fun too! 😊

This series is technically a sequel (and ostensibly the last work in the Fae Verse…), but it’s also a standalone, more or less. Chronologically speaking, the reading order should be like this:
Deeper into the Woods
The Nightingale and Terho the Mouse-Lad
Game Theory
The Court of Five Thrones
The Forest of Fire
The Seething Seas
The Ice Plague
Deeper into the Woods is the best place to start, imo — it’s short, it introduces the MCs and lets you familiarize yourself with the author’s writing style and some of the main themes. It also works well as a standalone — it's not ‘romance’ as much as kinky psychological fantasy (if that makes sense??)
Game Theory follows that, chronologically. It was the first work ever written in this universe, actually. It’s still technically fanfiction — as opposed to the other works which are 100% original — and as such there’s a lot of outside references that WILL confuse any reader not familiar with the fandom (I’m one of those, btw). It’s supposed to get a thorough makeover soon, but how soon is that? No one knows, not even the author - I asked 🤷♀️ Pia wrote a short prequel to GT that addresses those issues, and may make some stuff easier to understand - book 2.5.
If you'd rather avoid this clusterfuck (which is still VERY readable, and lets you properly enjoy The Court of Five Thrones, which is the pinnacle of this series, imo), you can start with the Ice Plague series instead — it’s not as dark, and introduces some of the recurring cast (mostly Augus and Gwyn) in a different light, 10 years down the road.

Your essay was very helpful and I hope I can get into this world soon 🤩 but I can't just leave MXTX's books. I'm still only on vol 2 of TGFC and SVSSS and this new series (?) looks quite long. Probably will just read everything at the same time as usual 😅😅😅

I had to check AO3 to answer your question 🙈 and I see that there’s a ‘Raise if the Guardians’ tag. I’m not a part of this fandom, but I think the author only ‘borrowed’ a couple of side characters and some parts of the universe and build on that?? 🤔🤷♀️
It is a little complicated! 😅 but worth it, imo. I hope you’ll think so, too 😊
