The section where Winter describes visiting the memorials is definitely the highlight so far. Very evocative and affecting.

Still very much enjoying this, but sometimes the way the author uses his personal memories as a bridge to the history feels like he's really stretching, occasionally to the point that it takes me out of the narrative flow a bit.

Once I got into the writing style and approach to the subject, I've been quite enjoying this.
