I forgot to mention Wells wrote the original in 1896! As resent as 2 or 3 years ago, a woman had a complete face transplant!

I am not surprised that vivisection continues today. The book didn't get interesting until nearing the end when poor Edward Prendick was truly in trouble, having to fend for his life among the Beast people. Mr. Wells, in penning The Island of Dr. Moreau, saw the future. The future is now and still moving. But will it stabilize? It surely must become more humane.

This is a hard book to read--at times gross. H.G. Wells' [Dr. Moreau] vivisection & manipulation is hard to manage. Yet, he talks of transplanting tissue, and far more, which is undertaken today without second thought. Amazing.

I supposed if this book were written in the 20th century no one would be surprised at Dr. Moreau's experiments.
