The man smiled at me. Quiet humor tinted hjs pale blue eyes,as if he found the world a perpetually amusing place. They were the kind of eyes that shone with intelligence, confidence and calculation. He didn’t look—he watched, noticed and evaluated--and I had a feeling that even when his mouth and his eyes smiled , his mind remained alert and razor-sharp.

He didn’t walk he stalked, deliberate, quiet, watchful. His hair, a deep russet shade, was tousled. He wore black, and while the dark pants and dark doublet obscured the exact lines of his body, it was very clear that he was corded with hard muscle… He looked hard, the way veteran soldiers sometimes look hard without trying.
I definitely had seen him and the arbitrator before. I just couldn’t recall when.
