I have rarely read romances as depressing as this one. Serves me right for picking something that happens during the Napoleonic wars.
I do have a question about timing though: female main character is 20 and has known Jesse for 10 years, first in Canada - which war was there in Canada where the British might have been right before the Napoleonic wars?

Book starts in prologue in 1812 in Canada War. Then chapter one is maybe 10 years later. The Napoleonic wars were still ongoing?
