I just read the part where members of the Ku Klux Klan and the White Brotherhood attacked Miss Jane Pittman.

I just got to the part where they meet a poor white woman who "is as mean as she is poor," in Miss Jane Pittman's words. She told Jane and the Little boy, Ned how much she hates them. That shows you how much deep-rooted the racism really is in these white folks.
