This is definitely the type of story I've recently come to enjoy: historical fiction. It's like my own little simple time machine. Words that simply journey you into the past and place you right in the heart of history/the story

I do like that the secrets of Sarah's past were kept hidden for so long in this storyline. I feel this takes away from the main focus of the story. Also, I'm fairly enjoying this story but part of me wonders if it's dragging a little. I think the sub story lines of Frank/Anne then Sarah's past add too much weight to it

Do not like nor do I understand why we need to read the point of views from Frank and Anne. I understand they are a sub part of the storyline but revealing their parts could have been done so creatively

Sincerely enjoying this novel. Still not sure why we need to read Frank's side of things. Yes, it reveals information regarding Annie but do we really need it? Could the information be withheld to act as leverage for a surprise twist later? Guess we'll see

One hundred pages in and we finally learn the truthful history of how Sarah came to be with Josiah. I would have liked this information sooner. Though still a bit unsure who Edouard is (a lover, boyfriend, fiancé, husband?) and what he did wrong to her (stolen golden nuggets from her uncle?)

Just came to the part of the first break in to Josiah's/Sarah's house. I would have left the section of Frank's plan from previously out. We know it's Frank trying to break in. If his section was left out, it would add to the suspense and thrill to wondering who did try to break in. Maybe Daniel tried to hire someone or a neighbor (Frank) or someone else from the past

I was just about to write how I enjoy the two point of views (Sarah and Daniel) within a chapter together flowing in a continuous timeline when suddenly someone named Frank entered the mix as well. It threw me off. Also who is Edouard Marchand and how did he ruin Sarah's life?

My mistake. I thought Lottie and Mrs. McGinnis were the same person oddly

How old is Lottie? I thought she was a much older woman but from what I gathered as her father the lawyer, she seems like a young girl. Like the young Chinese boy who helps Sarah's neighbor.

I just looked back to see what year we are currently set in to determine Sarah's age. She states she was 15 in 1875, the year now is 1882 which would bring her to 22
