Goddamn this is a weird book! Who writes a YA fantasy about Alistair Crowley ruling the world through satanic goat sacrifices, with Jules Verne and the disembodied head of Napoleon as his slave-advisors, opposed by a cult-army of magician-spys under the leadership of a talking Marmot and three emotionally disturbed prep-school students? And who makes that work so we’ll and somehow evoke Dianna Wynne Jones so hard?!
