My favourite Brunner novel is The Sheep Look Up, by a wide margin. Of the other major works, Stand On Zanzibar was worth reading, but a bit long and draggy at times for me - and The Shockwave Rider is a type of proto-cyberpunk that just leaves me cold. Some minor Brunner has left me feeling meh, but others did alright with me, like The Wrong End of Time, and Double, Double. I hope this one is at least as good.

Hmm, at first I thought I might be getting something like The Punch Escrow, or Echo Round His Bones, but now it’s reminding me more of the Star Trek episode Mirror, Mirror, mixed in with a novel I read recently by Jason Starr called The Next Time I Die. Anyway, it’s gotten quite interesting.

Just a taste, of the short but dramatic first chapter pyrotechnics.
