I found the mention of the nutcracker in relation to the cannibal to be really fascinating. I suppose that this may have been what influenced Sonja to give the nutcracker to Natasha in the first place, seeing that, like the cannibal’s skull, Natasha was no different physically from others, but, on the inside, was a whole other person. Really good chapters and I’m excited to read more!

It is such a good story! Each chapter leaves you with more questions and Marra’s use of foreshadowing and tone is second to none!

The last chapter was really heavy. We gained a lot of backstory on the characters, but are left with more questions than answers. What was Dokka doing? Why is Havaa involved? Why would the Russian liberators be running the Landfill and killing the people they were supposed to be rescuing? Great, haunting text!

Finished “The First and Second Days!” An absolutely amazing story with undertones of both dystopian and humanitarian themes. Emotionally turbulent. Don’t want to put it down!
