Okay... we just crossed the territory from suspension of disbelief to ridiculous and eye roll worthy...

Yes. It's silly. But the second book has a much stronger plot.

I think you're just supposed to be enjoying the guys, anyway. :P

Casey Yes, enjoying the guys...
and then the sex in the next one - yummy

Mel I know, I know. And I'm trying to go with the flow, despite all those inconsistencies and a total lack of logic (Why not just kill him? Why did those killers drive away from the house when their work wasn't done? How come Andrei ended up in bed when he fought for a gun and tried to protect that prostitute? How come Chris knows nothing about that high and mighty Russian Z-guy while John knows all the details? Why not give Andrei another face lift after he was recognized?) and the major rush in everything sexual and emotional.

And really: it was working, that whole suspension of disbelief. But then that boss lady of Gorgon told Andrei that story about Chris showing strong emotion and newly recovering-lawyer-Andrei was asked to join an elite killers team....
Seriously?

Casey With no known skills other than fucking team members - I know lol

I could make up lots of excuses but I won't, its definitely the weaker of the two plot wise.

I loved the guys, and the sex and Chris in particular because he has echoes of a slightly saner Toreth. Chris really come into his own in the next one.

Mel Enough with the tA talk! I don't know Toreth! I thought the guys weren't really in the next book?

John and Andrei aren't "really" in the next book. Well, they are there but they have little to do with the story. It's almost all Chris and "his" Russian.

Give up looking for an explainable plot in this one, Mel. There just isn't one. I'm still not happy with the one in First Blood, either but it is 200% better than this one.

Casey um... I should keep my mouth shut lol.

Yeah, me too. No spoilering Mel.

Is that for a spoiler or my tA comment cause I didn't mean it as bitchy as it might have sounded!

Spoilers? There is something to spoil?

message 10: by [deleted user] (new)

Well I almost spoiled something in the next book. BUT I remembered this was the spoiler-phobic Mel and restrained myself just in time. *proud of self*

Mel Aaaaw thanks :)
Well I think I know what you meant though. 'Chris and his Russian'. And I read in a review that he ended up going for that Nikita guy. So I'm pretty much spoiled. But no worries. If I'm not head over heels with a book, the being spoiled thing is not a death sentence like normally :)
And I did it to myself.

lol... no, I just couldn't remember what was on the jacket blurb for the 2nd book and didn't want to colour it for you.
But yes, Chris and his Russian :D

Gosh I'm gonna have to reread it now. Was there no plot in the 2nd book - am I so 'guy blind' I'm missing the fact there is no story and making up my own?

message 14: by Mel (new) - rated it 3 stars

Mel But you read them both twice already? You must be gay guy crazy :)

Wait! I never said there was no plot in the second book, only that such a thing was missing in the first one. But don't let me stop you from reading it again just to make sure. :P

Casey OK lol, I'm getting sooo confused.

The first one is lacking plot wise yes. Not lacking as such just - odd. But it is a short so it was forgiven.

Whilst I had my moments of being picky with the 2nd one, but then I do with all books, I liked the flow and plot and character development. So yes - still off to read it again. Well, maybe in a week or so, am caught up in TA again now.
