One can skip to chapter 21, around page 389, with just a brief summary of the preceding pages without having lost all that much of the story. This work is really just too long-winded. But pretty good... once you're already 50% through the book.

Miss Halcombe's constant comparisons between men and women is getting very tiresome. I also feel like I could skip 200 pages and be able to pick up any missing pieces easily. The mystery has promise, but this is too long-winded.
