Valeria smiled. "You see, you have found some comfort here. You are worried about your poor dog because he is lame. But he, too, may have found hospitality. You love him, so another may love him. You love him, so you may love another."

Rereading it feels like it is a huge influence for the Elden Ring. Its like wondering through such a place but with far less enemies

It is a terrific series by an unparalleled author. After finishing The Second Apocalypse this is the only other fantasy series that I have really enjoyed. Though very different it hits some similar chords to me. Think something like a weird Odyssey in a very distinct, inspired setting sometime in Earth's future, written in a great prose, full of layers and secrets that are slowly revealed and connected. Every chapter is like a puzzle piece that at times you have no idea where it fits but when it connects it is a glorious moment.
There is no guarantee that you will have a clear picture at the end but thats part of its charm. It will occopy your brain for a good time.
You just need to start it without expecting anything. Just follow the unreliable narrator and his weird journey through symbolism, surrealism, adventures, haunting or beautiful places and greater meanings.
